Contraception has been practised for centuries. The last decade however has revolutionised the practice of contraception. We now have new improved methods and are able to offer contraception to patients for whom contraception was previously thought to be contraindicated. While the average age of first sexual contact is getting younger, child-bearing however, is being increasingly delayed with many couples planning for children in their thirties and forties. Obesity and its associated problems are on the rise as are anxiety related disorders and depression. This workshop is intended as an update for trainees and General Obstetricians and Gynaecologists who are involved in the practice of sexual health. Its aim is to refresh the participants’ knowledge on reproductive physiology and expose them to the newer contraceptive methods such as low-dose regimes, bio-degradable delivery systems and vaccines, which are either already available or soon will be, and which can be used under supervision by patients with co-morbid factors. The workshop will also discuss the issues regarding sex, the law and young people, as well as the ethico-legal aspects of contraceptive use.

Robotic-assisted surgery is the latest technological advancement in this field and its rapid uptake leaves little doubt that this is the way forward for the future. The workshop aims to familiarise participants with the indications for, setup, application and use of robotic surgery. At the same time, advances in laparoscopy are also making further inroads, with Single Port Surgery, semi-automated suturing devices, new morcellators, better energy sealing devices and instrumentation all making their debuts in the last two years. The workshop also aims to enhance the participants’ understanding and handling of these new instruments, aiding the transition to clinical practice. This workshop is suitable for clinicians with mid to advanced skill levels in MIS.

Come to the BJOG workshop to find out how to give your paper the best chance of being accepted. The workshop will include advice on how to prepare your submission, structure your paper and an insight into what editors hate.
Find out what goes on behind the scenes in the Editorial Office and understand the initial checks that must be passed before your paper even reaches the Editor. Hear about the editorial and peer review processes, improve your understanding of publication ethics, good reporting guidelines and registering clinical trials. Common reasons for rejection, such as poor study design and data presentation will be discussed, as well as how to enhance your submission with a video or PowerPoint presentation. There will also be a chance to hear from the publisher Wiley-Blackwell about impact factors, the H-index and how widely your article would be distributed and accessed. After attending this workshop we hope you will have a clear understanding of the peer review process and how to revise and resubmit your manuscript in response to referee and editorial comments.
